Why Generic Marriage Predictions Fail
Most astrology apps give you a year range — “you’ll get married between 25 and 28” — based on nothing more than your moon sign. That’s not Vedic astrology. That’s guessing.
Real marriage timing in Jyotish requires analyzing at least six independent factors in your birth chart, and all of them need to align before marriage actually happens. Missing even one factor explains why many predictions go wrong.
The Six Factors That Determine Marriage Timing
1. The 7th House — Structural Promise
The 7th house from your Ascendant is the house of marriage. BPHS (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra) Chapter 28 is explicit: the 7th house lord’s placement, strength, and aspects determine whether marriage is promised at all, and what kind of marriage it will be.
If the 7th lord is strong (in own sign, exalted, or in a kendra), marriage is structurally promised. If the 7th lord is combust, debilitated, or in the 6th/8th/12th houses, there may be delays or complications — but not denial.
2. Venus and Jupiter — Natural Karakas
Venus is the karaka (significator) of marriage for men. Jupiter is the karaka for women. Their placement, dignity, and aspects set the baseline quality of married life.
Venus in the 7th house often accelerates marriage. Venus debilitated or combust can delay it. But karaka placement alone doesn’t determine timing — it determines quality.
3. The Navamsha (D9) — Confirmation
The Navamsha chart is called the “marriage chart” for a reason. BPHS states that the D9 must confirm what the birth chart promises. If the birth chart shows a strong 7th house but the Navamsha 7th is afflicted, marriage may happen but face challenges.
The Navamsha Ascendant lord’s placement and the D9 7th lord together tell you whether the birth chart’s promise will actually manifest.
4. Dasha Timing — When It Actually Happens
This is where most astrologers go wrong. Even if the 7th house is perfect, marriage only happens during the right dasha (planetary period). The Vimshottari dasha of the 7th lord, Venus, or planets connected to the 7th house must be active.
For example, if your 7th lord is Mars and you’re running Mars Mahadasha or Mars Antardasha, that’s a marriage window. But Mars Mahadasha alone isn’t enough — the transit must also support it.
5. Transit Confirmation — Double Transit
Sage Parashara’s principle of double transit requires both Jupiter and Saturn to simultaneously aspect the 7th house, 7th lord, or Venus during the dasha period. This is the final trigger.
Without double transit confirmation, even a perfect dasha won’t produce marriage. This is why some people miss predicted windows — the transits didn’t align.
6. Doshas — Manglik and Beyond
Mangal Dosha (Mars in 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th from Ascendant, Moon, or Venus) can delay marriage but doesn’t deny it. BPHS provides specific cancellation conditions. More importantly, dosha analysis must consider all three reference points — Ascendant, Moon, and Venus — not just one.
